Dear John,
Today, Senator Bernie Sanders will force a vote on two joint resolutions of disapproval – S.J.Res.34 [[link removed]] and S.J.Res.41 [[link removed]] – in order to block the Trump administration’s planned transfer of offensive armaments to Israel. These include [[link removed]] the transfer of thousands of bombs, munitions, and other military hardware that would be used to continue Israel’s devastating war on Gaza and potentially other countries.

This vote comes amid overwhelming evidence that the U.S.-backed Israeli military operations have directly contributed to the starvation and mass death of civilians in Gaza – particularly children. According to The Washington Post [[link removed]] , more than 60,000 Palestinians have been killed, nearly one-third of whom are children. This number is still a significant undercount, given the collapse of local health and reporting systems in Gaza, with credible estimates [[link removed](24)01169-3/fulltext] indicating the true toll is in the hundreds of thousands. The toll is likely to significantly skyrocket with humanitarian organizations warning that widespread famine is setting in. Time is running out to prevent further mass death.
Former U.S. Green Beret Anthony Aguilar – after returning from working on the ground in Gaza via the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid delivery operation – testified [[link removed]] this week that Israel is deliberately blocking food and aid, and has even witnessed former U.S. military and IDF soldiers opening fire on starving Palestinians attempting to reach humanitarian convoys under desperate conditions. In an interview with Democracy Now, Aguilar stated that “We, the United States, are complicit. We are involved, hand in hand, in the atrocities and the genocide that is currently undergoing in Gaza.”
It is unconscionable for the U.S. to continue enabling such crimes. Yet these arms packages worth billions of U.S. dollars are set to move forward without conditions, oversight, or accountability. This forced vote offers a rare and urgent opportunity for the Senate to take a public position on whether it will continue to rubber-stamp the use of U.S. weapons in a war that has decimated civilian life and humanitarian norms.
As our community well knows, the horrific continuation of this humanitarian crisis also comes on the heels of Israel’s unprovoked military strikes on Iran this past June, a reckless, illegal action that claimed hundreds of civilian lives while failing to solve the nuclear crisis with Iran and making diplomacy much more difficult.
At a moment when tensions across the Middle East are already dangerously high, further arming Israel without scrutiny and conditions only deepens instability as the current ceasefire between Iran and Israel remains fragile and the risk of the U.S. being dragged fully into a bloody regional conflict continues.
Our community does not support this, and the data shows it. A recent poll of the Iranian-American community [[link removed]] indicated that 60% of Iranian Americans oppose the military action Israel has taken in Gaza, with a plurality of 44% strongly opposing such action.
Time is running out. Take action TODAY by sending a message to your Senators urging them to take a clear stand against blank checks for war and the crime of starvation as warfare.
