A Special Message from Prospect Writing Fellow Marcia Brown

Just a few days after graduating from college, I moved into a group home with roommates I found on Craigslist and started at the Prospect.

Since then, I've traveled to Toronto, Canada, to report on
asylum seekers, to Richmond, Virginia, to cover a pro-gun rally, and I've broken news on Trump immigration policy.

In my first year, I've developed beats around immigration, prisons, elections, and labor. I've interviewed police abolitionists, incarcerated people, union leaders, and insurgent progressive candidates. My work helped spring a Cameroonian asylum seeker from ICE detention during the COVID pandemic and helped shape a presidential candidate's policies on student debt.

At another organization, I wouldn't have had the chance to write these stories, but the Prospect’s Kuttner Writing Fellowship encourages and enables young journalists to take risks and pursue this journalism. Our readership and your support make it all possible. The Prospect needs to meet our goal of 1,000 recurring donors by the end of June. Can you be one of them?
