Dear John,

Yesterday a group of my colleagues and I went to New Mexico to meet with Governor Lujan Grisham about the dangers of President Trump’s reckless, authoritarian attacks on our most basic rights and freedoms. 

Trump’s already cut Medicaid. He's actively defunding our public schools. And he's blatantly covering up the Epstein files because he’s on the list. 

Now Trump’s allies in Texas have just released a newly proposed congressional map that steals five seats to protect a Republican majority in Congress. It attacks Austin by further carving up our community and diluting our representation in an outrageous affront to our voice, our values, and our democracy.

If a president can just redraw maps to protect his political party, then the people lose their power.

Texans won’t stand for it. That’s why we went to New Mexico. And that's why we will use every tool in the toolbox to fight back.
