Earlier this month, I visited a vital community resource in Willimantic that helps families enroll in SNAP and keeps its food pantry stocked with donated goods.

The staff there shared something heartbreaking with me: The partisan GOP budget bill passed this month will gut food assistance programs, including SNAP and USDA funding for food banks. These cuts are going to hit seniors and families with children the hardest — and all of it is being done to give tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

While families across the country are struggling with rising food prices, Republicans in Congress are choosing to make it even harder for them to put food on the table.

It’s unconscionable — and I won’t stay quiet about it.
