Dear John,
Our monthly donors are an essential part of our donor base, standing with us over the months and years to make long-term legal change a reality. Their sustainable, flexible funding helps power our movement and enables us to counter emerging threats, like expanding authoritarianism and anti-rights movements, the closing space for civil society, and slashed funding for nonprofits worldwide. However, despite its benefits, recurring giving made up less than 1% of our revenue in 2024.

That’s why we’re seeking 15 new monthly donors and are reaching out to you today to see if you would be interested in joining the select few by setting up a monthly gift of $15 or more. If you contribute before midnight tomorrow, you will receive an Equality Now tote bag for FREE. ([link removed])

John, monthly giving provides the flexibility needed to hold the line against threats to women's rights. Take, for example, The Gambia.
Last year, a Member of Parliament and traditional cutters backed by a select group of religious leaders attempted to overturn a ban against female genital mutilation (FGM) in The Gambia, which offers legal protection to an estimated 386,000 girls. But, thanks in part to the flexible funding provided by our recurring donors, we were able to quickly respond. We:
* Undertook a comprehensive media advocacy campaign to educate the public about the harmful effects of FGM as well as its discriminatory underpinnings and amplify survivor voices;
* Engaged in legal advocacy, developing legal opinions and arguments to highlight the importance of the anti-FGM law and collaborated with local partners to advance these arguments both before the Gambian National assembly as well as regional accountability platforms; and
* Strategically supported local organisations to engage communities, traditional and religious leaders, journalists, and Members of Parliament to discuss the negative effects of FGM.
Together, we successfully protected the ban and hundreds of thousands of girls from this harmful practice. We also convened a litigation surgery that served as a platform to analyse the legal issues and discuss the roles various civil society organizations could play in defense of the law going forward.

This is just one example of the power of recurring giving. To continue making a difference and protect the rights we’ve worked hard to secure, we need the support of donors who are ready to take their support to the next level with a monthly gift of $15 or more. Thank you for standing with us thus far. Together, we can do even more to advance women’s and girls’ rights.
In solidarity,
Amy Hutchinson
Global Director of Development
P.S. Please don’t forget – if you make your monthly gift of $15 or more before midnight tomorrow, you will receive an exclusive Equality Now tote bag. ([link removed]) Thank you.
