** Viva Port Talbot Retro Fest
------------------------------------------------------------
There was a wonderful atmosphere at Viva Port Talbot’s Retro Fest this month! The town was absolutely buzzing.
It was so good to see the streets filled with families and friends soaking up this great event.
From stunning classic cars to an incredible mix of music and a fab line-up of traders, the atmosphere was electric. And of course, couldn’t miss out on the iconic DeLorean!
Huge shout-out to everyone who helped make it happen — once again you’ve delivered another top event for Port Talbot. Well done everyone.
Viva Port Talbot has once again put on a great event for our town!
** HDM Solar
------------------------------------------------------------
It was a pleasure to officially open HDM Solar’s new facility in Baglan and welcome them to our community.
HDM Solar is one of the UK’s fastest-growing suppliers of renewable energy products, specialising in solar and related technologies.
It’s truly wonderful to see a company like HDM Solar choosing to locate here, bringing jobs and fresh opportunities to our community.
Their arrival reinforces Port Talbot’s growing reputation as a hub for green energy innovation.
Well done all involved for a great opening!
** Floating Offshore Wind
------------------------------------------------------------
This month I was pleased to join the Secretaries of State for Business and for Wales and the First Minister of Wales at the breaking the ground ceremony for the construction of the electric arc furnace (EAF) at our Port Talbot steelworks.
This marks a significant milestone for Port Talbot, and for the future of steelmaking across the UK.
This isn’t just about new machinery. It’s about making sure steel remains at the heart of Port Talbot’s identity, cutting emissions, futureproofing the industry, and securing long-term jobs.
But I know it is also difficult for many in our community. The company's decision to shift to greener steel has come at a real human cost, especially for workers whose jobs have been affected. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to push for local people, especially those impacted by the transition, to be involved in building this new facility. Their skills, their knowledge, and their commitment to the industry are vital to what comes next.
The UK Labour Government is fully behind British steel. From launching the UK Steel Council to cutting energy costs for steel producers, tightening import safeguards, and reforming procurement rules to prioritise British made steel; this is action, not just words.
We’re also working with our international partners to boost steel exports. Right now, the UK is the only country in the world not paying the 50% tariff on exports to the US and we’re pushing hard to remove the remaining 25% tariffs.
Port Talbot has always been a proud steel town. And while thistransformation brings challenges, it also brings hope.
With the right investment & leadership, we’re building a cleaner, stronger & more resilient future for our industry & for our community.
** St Catharine's Church Fete
------------------------------------------------------------
It was great to attend St Catharine’s church fete in Baglan, alongside our newly elected councillor Josh Tuck and councillor Carol Clements.
There was a great atmosphere with lots of stalls, raffles and games and of course, the annual duck race, which saw 300 ducks make their way down the brook!
** Hanuman Chariot Festival
------------------------------------------------------------
It was wonderful to attend and be a part of the Hanuman Chariot festival this year. The Hanuman Chariot festival is a beautiful spectacle in Velindre, right in the heart of our Port Talbot community.
Congratulations to all involved in organising this wonderful annual celebration of Tamil Hindu culture and faith!
** Advice Surgeries
------------------------------------------------------------
I held an advice surgery in Cymmer this month & offered another advice surgery in Caerau.
I spoke to constituents about a range of topics & helped them to resolve issues they were having on everything from anti-social behaviour to help with benefits.
