John,
Donald Trump is trying to put his sycophants on the federal bench.
He’s furious that some of the judges he appointed from the Federalist Society — including Amy Coney Barrett — haven’t ruled exactly the way he wants in every single case. So now, he’s ditching even the Federalist Society and demanding something else: unending personal loyalty.
That’s what’s at stake with the nomination of Emil Bove to the federal bench.
Bove is no ordinary nominee. He’s one of Trump’s most loyal allies and exactly the kind of judge Trump wants on the bench: someone who will do his bidding, no matter what the law says.
Bove has a terrible track record. As a prosecutor in New York, his fellow prosecutors found his conduct so poor that they urged his demotion. At the Justice Department, he spearheaded the dismissal of corruption charges against the Mayor of New York as part of an illicit quid pro quo. And he instructed lawyers at the department that they may need to say F U to the courts and ignore court orders — and then they did.
I’ve been sounding the alarm about Bove’s nomination because it’s bigger than just one court of appeals seat. This is about whether our judiciary will remain independent or become just another tool for Trump to use to consolidate his power.
I’ll never stop fighting to defend our democracy and hold Trump and his allies accountable. But to keep up this work, especially with our end-of-month deadline just two days away, I need your help.
Will you chip in today to fuel my fight against Trump’s extremist takeover of our judiciary? Just 2 days out from our end-of-month deadline, your support right now is critical.
