I have never abandoned my capacity to hope — because I am living proof of
what’s possible.
I was a kid who grew up thinking the bottom could fall out at any moment.
A kid who didn’t always do the best in school, who had a different color
lunch ticket.
But I had my family. My aunties. And I had my faith.
And so with a little help from things like Medicaid and Section 8, and the
Child Care Assistance Program, my mom and I got a little closer to the
middle class.
I went to college and earned a degree. I got jobs working for Senators
Wellstone and Franken, and for the Children’s Defense Fund. I became a
school board member, a state representative, and the highest-ranking
Native American woman in executive office in our country.
[ [link removed] ]And now a kid who was on the fringes, who walked home from the food
shelf with her mom with a big wheel of commodity cheese and a giant can of
peanut butter, is running to represent our state in the United States
Senate.
I believe in a country where families can thrive, where healthcare and
education are accessible to all, and where equitable opportunities are
more than just words.
This is more than just hope — it's a shared vision of what we can achieve
together. But it requires all of us to come together, using our voices to
demand a new era of leadership in Washington.
