Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a wilderness ranger?

We joined them as they performed the diverse tasks that keep
Glacier wild, from maintaining remote trails and campsites to
monitoring wildlife and managing invasive species.

Funded by the Glacier National Park Conservancy, their tireless
efforts preserve the parkโ€™s wilderness character and ensure a
safe, pristine experience for every visitor.

Step into their boots and see what a day on patrol is really like

Glacier Book Club:
Natural Rivals with
author John Clayton

Natural Rivals traces the contrasting philosophies of John Muir,
the idealistic naturalist who fought to preserve wilderness, and
Gifford Pinchot, the pragmatic founder of the U.S. Forest Service
who promoted sustainable resource management. Their rivalry,
highlighted by the Hetch Hetchy dam debate and earlier
experiences like their 1896 camping trip in Montana, shaped the
creation of Americaโ€™s public lands system. The book explores how
their competing approaches ultimately helped establish national
parks and forests, highlighting the lasting impact of their
differing visions.
