Hi, it’s Ghazala Hashmi. Can I tell you a little bit about why I’m running for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia?
As a young girl who immigrated from India to a small town in Georgia, I was often asked uncomfortable questions about my faith, like whether I prayed to multiple gods or if I prayed to Jesus.
These questions helped me shape my identity — one rooted in empathy, understanding, and defending those who are misunderstood .

This is a lesson I’ve carried with me throughout my career in public service, and through this campaign for Virginia. Now, I am fighting for a brighter future for everyone , regardless of race, religion, or background.
