Hi folks,
In Washington, the revolving door is spinning faster than ever—and too many members of Congress have come to embrace it. The American people should have confidence that elected officials in Washington are there to represent them, not to audition for high-paying lobbying jobs with special interests.
That's why fifteen years ago, as a new senator, I introduced legislation that would ban members of Congress from ever becoming lobbyists.
Unfortunately, special interest groups and powerful corporations' sway over our politics has only grown since then.
That’s why I’m so glad to see Congressman Joe Neguse and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joining me in this fight and championing my lobbying ban in the U.S. House.
The Close the Revolving Door Act of 2025 would:
- Introduce a lifetime ban on former members of Congress from becoming lobbyists.
- Ban senior congressional staff from lobbying Congress for six years following their departure from service.
- Increase fines for violations of the Lobbying Disclosure Act from $200,000 to $500,000.
This legislation is a no-brainer that would hold Congress accountable to the people, not special interests, and slam shut the revolving door of influence in Washington.
