We need your help! Tell the Administration (again): It’s Unacceptable to Take Food Away from Working Families, Children, Seniors and People with Disabilities. The proposed rule would severely restrict “Broad Based Categorical Eligibility” (BBCE), a state option that has long allowed states to help low-income households save and work toward financial stability. The New Rule Would: - Stop states from providing SNAP to families who are working their way up the income ladder, but also have high expenses. - Prevent states from allowing low-income households to save -- for emergencies, a home, education, and their future! Pennsylvania would be forced to reinstate an asset limit of $2,250 for families, and $3,500 for households with a senior or person with a disability. - Bring back additional red-tape for SNAP participants and increase administrative costs for both states and the federal government. USDA’s proposal estimates increased administrative costs of $2.3 billion over five years (2019-2023). - Jeopardize access to free school breakfast and lunch for more than 500,000 children nationwide. (We are working to secure estimates for the impact in PA). We need to generate lots of comments making clear that these cuts would harm struggling people. Don’t let this administration increase hunger and food insecurity by taking food off the tables of working families with children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Get your comments in by the deadline - September 23 – and feel free to reach out to us at [email protected]. |
