Dear Supporter,

From the Stonewall riots to today, New York has long been at the center of the fight for equality and opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community.

In the last weeks, LGBTQ+ rights were codified by the Supreme Court so that all Americans have the rights long enshrined in New York’s discrimination protection.

Just a few days before the Supreme Court ruling, the federal government passed a repugnant rule that rolled back healthcare nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people. But in New York, discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation is illegal — period.

Normally, June marks the month that New Yorkers all across the State come together and celebrate Pride. Because of COVID-19, these celebrations will look different – but it is still a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, the work we have done together, and the victories we have won.

Tell us how you are celebrating Pride this year.

Under Governor Cuomo’s leadership, New York has led the way.

√ Required that everyone, regardless of gender identity, be protected under the State's Human Right Law.
√ Strengthened health care and insurance regulations to protect transgender New Yorkers.
√ Committed to making New York the first state in the nation to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
√ Banned the deplorable practice of conversion therapy.

How are you celebrating the LGBTQ+ community this year?

Despite these major steps in our state, we are still seeing a coordinated attack aimed at bringing us back to the days of hate and discrimination. But we must keep moving forward towards equality for all.

And during a time of so much violence against the transgender community in particular, our message is simple: we will not stop fighting to ensure equal protections for every New Yorker.

Ever Upward,

Team Cuomo
