I just returned from a two-day, seven-county swing through southwest Minnesota.

I met with county officials, small business owners, students, and community leaders. We talked about what’s working, and what’s keeping people up at night.

One message came through loud and clear: Minnesotans care deeply about our democracy.

They expect leaders to protect it. And they’re counting on all of us to step up.

• A federal court just ruled that private citizens can’t sue under the Voting Rights Act, a terrifying decision that could gut one of our nation’s most powerful civil rights laws.
   
• A dangerous executive order from President Trump aimed to force proof-of-citizenship to register to vote. Minnesota sued, and we helped win a major victory.
   
• And extremists in Congress are pushing laws like the SAVE Act that would deny millions of eligible Americans their right to vote.
