Students from a private school and a public school in Pittsburgh are joining forces to design accessibility devices to improve the lives of their peers with disabilities.


A grant-funded program, called “Access:Innovation,” brought students from Winchester Thurston and Westinghouse 6-12 together for three weeks to innovate and learn about communities other than their own.


A cushioned communication device for a person with cerebral palsy, condiment bottles designed for people with impaired vision and a selfie stick that can be attached to a wheelchair are a few of the gadgets that could come out of the program.
