The banter in the last two debates about education shows a lack of critical understanding of how to expand real opportunity and innovation. Jeanne Allen’s latest piece in The Hill [[link removed]] presents a golden opportunity for presidential contenders trying to break out of a crowded Democratic field.

Education policy is far too important to be based on campaign trail strategy rather than in a student’s learning environment or classroom. Because education enables our kids to lead happy, prosperous, productive lives, education is always a top issue for voters -- and therefore presents a golden opportunity for presidential contenders trying to break out of a crowded Democratic field.

Democratic primary candidates could distance themselves from the pack by getting past the rote party-line sound bites and instead embrace commonsense strategies that will make our educational system work for all kids and parents. Parents, teachers, and employers want real change, not a continued reliance on the antiquated classroom models ineffective in educating modern students.
