We know that for many families, every dollar counts right now. =C2=A0We are=
excited to let you know about a change the Government is making to help ea=
se the cost of living.

From May 2026, in-store payment surcharges will be banned.

That means when you tap your card, swipe it, or use your phone to pay, ther=
e=E2=80=99ll be no surprise fees added on at the checkout.
=C2=A0
Whether it=E2=80=99s fuel, groceries, or your morning coffee, we know that =
those little surcharges add up. In fact, us Kiwis are paying up to $150 mil=
lion a year in card surcharges, including around $65 million in excessive f=
ees. That=E2=80=99s money that could be saved or spent on the things that r=
eally matter.
=C2=A0
This change will apply to Visa, Mastercard, and EFTPOS payments - the ones =
we use almost every day. When it comes into effect, the price you see on th=
e shelf will be the price you pay at the till.
=C2=A0
The Government is also supporting small businesses through this change, wit=
h new rules that are lowering payment processing costs and making it easier=
for them to shop around for the best deal from banks and payment providers=
.

At a time when so many people are feeling the pressure, this is a practical=
step to bring more fairness and certainty to everyday spending.
