Friend --

According to reports, senior Trump administration officials met in
Washington today to discuss whether they should give the green light to
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s plans to illegally annex significant parts of
the West Bank.

We don’t know what their final decision will be -- or whether they could
truly restrain Netanyahu even if they wanted to. But here’s what we do
know:

With just a week left until annexation could begin to move forward, the
level of opposition from key voices in the Democratic party is now
sky-high. This week, 189 Members of Congress -- the overwhelming majority
of the House Democratic Caucus -- released a letter urging the Israeli
government not to move forward. ^[ [link removed] ]

That’s a major success for everyone working to prevent annexation -- and
your calls and emails to Congress helped make it happen.

[1]Now we need your help to keep rallying and amplifying powerful
opposition to Netanyahu’s plans in the days ahead. Can you chip in today
to help us keep up the fight for Israeli democracy and security and
Palestinian rights?

The new House letter adds to an impressive list of lawmakers and political
leaders who have spoken out over the past few weeks, including:

* Vice President Joe Biden
* Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
* Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
* 36 US Senators (over ¾ of the Senate Democratic Caucus)
* 10 prominent candidates for US Senate in key races across the country

From the moment it became clear that the new Netanyahu government was
seriously considering unilateral annexation, J Street has done all we can
to help mobilize powerful, outspoken pushback -- in Congress, on the
campaign trail and in the American Jewish community.

Together, you’ve helped us build a strong movement that is putting real
pressure on the Trump administration and the Israeli government, and
making clear that annexation would have lasting, harmful consequences. A
major recent report in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz observed that “The
Democratic party is united in its opposition to annexing the
settlements….in Israel there is a growing feeling that the annexation
process will accentuate the disputes over Israeli policy between the
Republican and Democratic parties in the United States.” ^[ [link removed] ]

No matter what decision gets made by the White House or what happens on
July 1 and beyond, we’re going to keep fighting for Israel’s future as a
democratic homeland for the Jewish people, and for the rights and
aspirations of the Palestinian people. We’re going to keep building
support for US foreign policy focused on peacefully resolving the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict and bringing an end to the occupation.

[2]If you’re all in for this fight, can you contribute today to help J
Street fight back against the forces of annexation?
