Statement from Connecticut Republican Chairman Ben Proto on CCMC Ending Gender Affirming Care for Minors
"These concerns center on the appropriateness of subjecting young children—who are still years away from fully developing mentally, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and sexually—to irreversible medical procedures. Many individuals who underwent such treatments as minors now express deep regret over decisions made before they had the maturity and capacity to fully understand the consequences.
Life-altering, irreversible medical interventions of this nature should be made by individuals who have reached an age and level of development where they can make informed, thoughtful decisions for themselves. In taking this step, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has chosen a responsible and prudent course, and I am confident they will continue to deliver the exceptional care they have provided to Connecticut’s children for decades."

Suspect enters guilty plea in Bridgeport ballot fraud case
"One of seven defendants charged in the Bridgeport mayoral election scandals pleaded guilty to voting fraud charges Wednesday but will avoid jail time under a plea agreement.
Under the agreement, Josephine Edmonds, 63, would be sentenced to a three-year suspended sentence with three years probation when she goes before Judge Tracy Lee Dayton on Sept. 25. Edmonds was facing four felony charges, including witness tampering and illegal possession of absentee ballots stemming from the 2019 election.
After the hearing, her attorney Public Defender James Pastore said his client was just a small part of an election machine."

To offer modest electric relief, CT to borrow $155 million
“Of the $155 million in bonding to be approved by the Bond Commission on Aug. 1, $125 million will reduce costs associated with hardship programs for low-income customers and $30 million will be used to reduce the costs associated with the electric vehicle charging program.
Another round of state borrowing expected in 2026 would enable the savings to continue into at least the first several months of 2027, the governor’s office said.
Republicans initially had sought a much more expansive and energy package that would have cost roughly $1 billion a year to eliminate the public benefits charge entirely. But the votes for SB 4 were nearly unanimous: 144-3 in the House, and 34-1 in the Senate.
In a statement issued quickly after Lamont’s announcement Friday, Senate Republicans said gutting the public benefits charge remans their goal: “Merely reducing the hidden public benefits tax is not nearly enough. Republicans will continue pushing to totally eliminate those public benefits charges from electric bills."
