We'll keep this quick, John: Seth Keshel is a former Army intelligence captain and MAGA diehard who has traveled the country spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. He's not just some online influencer, as he recently briefed a top White House staffer on his “critical election research.”

So we have to take it seriously when the far-right local election group Pure Integrity Michigan Elections announces that Keshel is joining the organization as a special advisor. 

Michigan is a state where opponents of voting rights are getting bolder in their attack on or democracy. Vote suppressors in the state legislature are after the Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, for not giving in to their conspiracies about the 2020 election. Michigan has also seen efforts by right-wing officials on election boards to use control of the certification process to spread more lies about voting irregularities.

Michigan's anti-voting groups would only bring in a major national MAGA election denier if they're going to step up their efforts in the state ahead of next year's critical midterm elections. We must be able to be in a position to fight them toe-to-toe to defend our fundamental right to vote.

As we're seeing in the wave of news about extreme partisan redistricting -- what happens in Texas, or Missouri, or Florida determines the makeup of Congress, and that impacts every single one of us.

It's been argued that opponents of voting rights only control the U.S. House right now because the North Carolina state legislature changed their maps ahead of the 2024 election. Now imagine they keep control of the U.S. House after the next elections because we let opponents of voting rights run rampant in a state like Michigan.
