When I look at what’s happening in Washington now, lawmakers are tearing down our middle class to put even more money in billionaires’ pockets. They’re cutting critical jobs at agencies that help keep our country running. Not even our National Parks or Weather Service are safe.
They’re punching down — attacking the most vulnerable among us — to make themselves seem strong. Something has to give.
There’s another path. When I was Governor of North Carolina, we expanded Medicaid. We passed pay raises for public school teachers and we built a strong economy by investing in clean energy and investing in our people.
Washington can look like this, too. It’s time to elect leaders who are ready to do the hard work of strengthening our middle class, restoring voting rights and reproductive rights, protecting our environment and ensuring every child has the excellent education they deserve.
