Supreme Court justices need term limits.

If you agree, sign our petition and demand Congress pass the TERM Act →

In recent years, the Supreme Court has faced credibility concerns as ethics scandals have arisen that call into question the justices’ ability to objectively follow and interpret the law.

Justice Clarence Thomas, for example, came under fire for his frequent undisclosed luxury travel and unreported loans. And Justice Samuel Alito faced public outrage after he failed to recuse himself from January 6th-related cases despite displaying flags that were symbolic of the “Stop the Steal” movement at his houses.

America’s founders envisioned the courts as a check on the presidency—but to serve that crucial role, especially in a time of rising authoritarianism, courts need to maintain credibility and earn the public’s trust. Instead, we’ve seen the Supreme Court cave to President Trump’s attempts to consolidate power in the executive branch and act more and more like a king.

John, it’s clear that Supreme Court justices lack accountability in part because of their lifetime appointments. They’re violating ethical norms and refusing to hold themselves to the same standard that other federal judges, and other public servants, are held to.

That’s why CREW is urging Congress to restore trust in the Supreme Court by passing the TERM Act which would require justices to serve in staggered 18-year terms.

The majority of Americans support term limits, so now it’s time that we put the pressure on Congress.

If you support term limits for Supreme Court justices, then please, sign our petition today urging Congress to pass the TERM Act. Together, we can fight for an ethical and transparent government →
