I am honored to announce my support for Jahana Hayes’s re-election campaign.

Jahana’s life hasn’t followed a straight path to the U.S. House. After becoming pregnant at the age of 17, Jahana made it through a school for expectant teens, then community college, then her first teaching job, then graduate school.

She became a community activist and was recognized by President Obama as National Teacher of the Year in 2016.

For both of us, education was our lifeline, and we were both able to achieve our dreams of becoming public school teachers. I never thought I’d run for public office, but I saw how Washington was rigged in favor of big banks and giant corporations over working people, so I got into the fight.

And when Jahana saw that Washington wasn’t working for her students and their families — on issues like child care, public education, food insecurity, health care, clean air, and more — she ran for Congress, and she won .

During this pandemic crisis, Jahana’s been laser-focused on delivering relief to working people, including fighting for SNAP benefits. And she’s an incredible partner in making sure we build an economy that works for everyone in the long run.

There is so much work left to be done, and we need people like Jahana to keep their seats at the table in Washington – which is why I’m writing to you today.

Jahana is running her first re-election campaign, and we need to make sure that she holds onto this seat and that Democrats keep the House.
