Urge Congress to Support U.S.-Israel Health Cooperation to Combat COVID-19

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Israel is a key American partner in the fight against COVID-19.

New bipartisan bills would strengthen U.S.-Israel health cooperation to combat the coronavirus and improve American healthcare.

The Expanding Medical Partnerships with Israel to Lessen Dependence on China Act (S. 3722 and H.R. 6829)—authored by Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Chris Coons (D-DE) in the Senate and Reps. Chris Pappas (D-NH), Lance Gooden (R-TX), Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and David Kustoff (R-TN) in the House—would:
  • Create a U.S.-Israel grant program to promote key innovative solutions to COVID-19 and other health problems.
  • Authorize $12 million over three years—to be matched by Israel, with potential private sector funding as well—to fund the grant program.
  • Help both countries respond to COVID-19, including in the areas of treatments, vaccinations and diagnostics.
