The people of North Carolina got some exciting news that you may have already seen today, John:

Roy Cooper — our former Democratic Governor of 8 years and Attorney General for 16 — announced that he is officially in the 2026 race for US Senate. I could not be more ready to support him.

I am proud to call Gov. Cooper a friend, and grateful for the lifetime of service he’s already given to North Carolina. As Attorney General, he took on big businesses that ripped off our people. As Governor, he led the effort to expand Medicaid, which now helps keep more than 670,000 of our neighbors healthy.

The Hill says that NC has the Senate seat most likely to flip in 2026, but we know we’re in for a tough race. Republicans will throw everything they have at defeating NC Democrats — and they’ve already lined up Trump’s handpicked MAGA candidate, Republican party insider Michael Whatley, to run against Gov. Cooper.

Gov. Cooper did so much to help us out when I was running for Governor. His support was instrumental to Democrats’ statewide victories here in NC last year. He has always had our back.
