| A special message to Daily Signal subscribers. Dear Friend, A team of high school girls took a bold stand for biblical truth—and they were punished for it. Two years later, they’re still paying the price. The girls’ basketball team at Mid Vermont Christian School (MVCS) was slated to compete against another school’s team. A team that included an over-six-foot-tall male who “identifies” as female. Before I keep going, I have to ask: Does this story sound familiar to you? Because it seems that all too often, we’re hearing similar stories of girls being forced to compete against biological males. As a result, so many of them have lost opportunities to advance, earn awards, and succeed. | | Here’s where the story changes. MVCS believes in the biblical truth—and basic biology—that says males and females are different. Competing in that game would have violated the school’s religious convictions of how God made them. Instead of facing the male player, MVCS chose to take a brave stand for its faith and forfeited the game. In response, Vermont officials banned the school from all state-sponsored middle and high school sports competitions. That means every middle and high school student at MVCS has been BENCHED from playing games in the state-sponsored sports league...just for the school’s commitment to truth and its Christian faith. Sadly, they’re still being barred from opportunities to use the gifts and talents that God has given them to succeed and bring Him glory. “The goal is to win the state championship,” said Chris Goodwin, coach of the MVCS girls’ basketball team. “We want to win every game. We want to be the best we can be and get that opportunity to play...” MVCS, with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, is challenging the state officials’ decision in a lawsuit—because no one should be punished for following their religious convictions. Females cannot be forced to abandon their beliefs and embrace a dangerous lie in order to participate in sports competition. Please sign this statement to say you AGREE with Mid Vermont Christian School that biblical truth matters—and help them get back to playing the sports they love. |
