Dear John,
The values we treasure as a nation are under direct assault. In response, we all must communicate with clarity about what is at stake and why it matters.
At Lawyers Defending American Democracy, we do this in many ways, including in our ongoing series for the Fulcrum [[link removed]] . To date, the Fulcrum has published seven articles from LDAD authors focusing on the administration’s sweeping and unprecedented executive actions.
One goal in this series is to demonstrate the connection between the administration’s frenetic executive orders and their roots in Project 2025, an extremist blueprint that is a framework for authoritarian governance. A second goal is to demonstrate how these actions affect you and your family.
LDAD is pleased to share two recent additions to this Fulcrum series. The first is an article by an LDAD volunteer who co-leads this project, Professor Julie Goldscheid: Trump Funding Cuts Endanger Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Survivors [[link removed]] . In writing about the administration’s brutal cuts to programs that prevent and reduce violence and assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, Professor Goldscheid wrote:
“We as a nation should have a shared commitment to ending violence and supporting victims of abuse. Project 2025 paints a picture of a country where individuals are left on their own to deal with crippling assaults, their mental, physical, and emotional damage be damned.”
Retired Massachusetts Juvenile Court Justice Jay Blitzman wrote about the administration’s destruction of the Department of Education and the devastating impact these cuts are having on children and their families: Trump’s Plot Against America’s Schools Sparks National Outrage [[link removed]] .
In his powerful piece, Judge Blitzman wrote:
“It is disingenuous to say that the goal of dismantling the Department of Education is to return local control of education to states and to promote parental autonomy. … The administration is effectively taking a wrecking ball to public education and in doing so threatens the future of our most vulnerable resource—our children.”
As LDAD noted in our introduction to this series, “This is not the America that our founders envisioned. But it is not too late for an informed public to change our nation's course.” Please join us in doing so.
Thank you,
Lawyers Defending American Democracy
P.S. We are living in extraordinary times that require constant advocacy to reverse the significant democratic backsliding that we are experiencing.
