Donald Trump made one of the most outrageous moves of his campaign. His administration is withholding over $6 billion in federal education funding, cutting vital support for students, teachers, and families across the country.

Here in Rhode Island, that means a freeze of $30 million, or 17% of our K-12 funding. That includes cuts to:

• After school and summer programs
• Teacher training and hiring
• English language support
• Adult literacy education

At a press conference with Rhode Island education leaders, I made it clear: this is unacceptable, and we’re not staying silent. The Trump Administration hasn’t even given a clear reason for this decision. But we know the playbook: underfund public schools, shift blame, and leave working people behind.

I’ve fought to restore funding for Rhode Island before, and I know the power of public pressure. That’s why I’m asking you to raise your voice now. The future of our classrooms, our communities, and our country depends on it.
