Boundary Waters defender,
It has come to our attention that we made a profound error in scheduling our 2019 Boundary Waters Gala [[link removed]] . The event is on October 9, which this year is also Yom Kippur [[link removed]], the most significant religious holiday in Judaism.
We sincerely apologize to everyone for this unacceptable oversight. Unfortunately at this point in time, we are unable to change the date of this year's event. If you cannot attend the gala due to observance of Yom Kippur, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Gala team [
[email protected]] as we work to develop ways in which to make event content and participation available online.
We are learning from this experience, and steps have been taken to ensure that this does not happen again. A robust calendar of religious, social, and cultural holidays, as well as other important dates is being developed internally such that we are able to thoroughly vet event dates. Please feel free to reach out [
[email protected]] with suggestions for important observable dates that you may want to be included.
The Boundary Waters belongs to everyone. The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters wants you on the team, fighting for the protection of this incredible Wilderness, and we apologize if we have ever made anyone feel otherwise.
Again, please do not hesitate to reach out.
With gratitude and regret,
Tom Landwehr
Executive Director, Save the Boundary Waters
on behalf of the entire Save the Boundary Waters team
