Hi Friend,
Over 2.5 million domestic workers across the United States -- many of them immigrants and women of color -- care for our children, homes, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Yet domestic workers in the United States are excluded from federal labor laws, which means they aren’t entitled to overtime pay, minimum wage, unemployment benefits, or worker’s compensation if they get injured on the job.
For the first time in history, we have the opportunity to give domestic workers the rights, dignity, and respect they deserve. Senator Kamala Harris and Representative Pramila Jaypal have introduced the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act and we’re joining with our partners to put the pressure on our legislators to pass it.
Will you sign the petition in support of the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act?
Under the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act, domestic workers will have access to safe and healthy working conditions, as well as protections against workplace harassment and discrimination, and paid overtime. They will also be able to benefit from affordable health care and retirement benefits, fair scheduling, support for survivors of sexual harassment, and grants for workplace training.(1)
Domestic workers have gone without federal protections for far too long as they’ve worked hard to care for our loved ones and our homes. We must demand that Congress change this by supporting the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights Act.
Sign here to support and protect the rights of domestic workers across the United States.
Yours in the fight,
Mary, along with Analeeza, Annie, Brenna, Caitlin, Deepthi, Diego, Eddie, Gabby, Lindsay, Mai, Molly, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage Campaign team)
