Madeline in the news: Madeline Dean is working hard for all Pennsylvanians, here's the latest

We have to invest in our communities, we have to invest in education

Mad recognizes the deadly impact this pandemic has had on our seniors. “The experts tell us that if the president had shown real leadership, we could have saved tens of thousands of lives by just acting more quickly. This pandemic has shown us the rudderless factions of a president who is flailing and deeply insecure.” Read more on the Reading Eagle >

Mad is calling to protect immigrants at the Berks County Residential Center: Dean said the lack of transparency surrounding the center is deeply concerning because without testing, there is an inability to trace and limit the spread of the coronavirus. She said transmission rates are likely higher than we realize. "It’s very concerning that these families are not only confined to this space, but at a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19 — we must protect them," she said.

Mad is committed to fighting for justice for Black communities: Dean said at Wednesday’s hearing that “if anybody has a doubt as to systemic racism in this country, as to inequality based on race in this country, you can look no further than between me and my friend and colleague [Georgia Democratic Rep. Lucy McBath].” McBath’s son, Jordan Davis, was shot and killed when he was 17 during a dispute about loud music. “I’m the mother of three white sons,” Dean said. I’ve never had to have ‘the talk,’ she said, referring to Black parents teaching their children how to interact with police. “You were the mother of beautiful Jordan Davis,” Dean told McBath. “You had to have the talk.” Read more in the Pennsylvania Capital-Star >

There are protests all over the globe and we have to keep them going

Mad spoke out against systemic racism at a protest: ‘Black Lives Matter Meets Schwenksville’, Peacefully And Successfully. “It’s systemic racism in how we educate our kids,” said Congresswoman Madeleine Dean (at right), whose Pennsylvania 4th District includes the borough. “It’s systemic racism in housing, in jobs, in opportunity, in mental health, in addiction services. We criminalize that which we should not criminalize, and then we look at people of color, sadly in this country, and they suffer the injuries.” Read more on the Sanatoga Post >
