What happens in the next five days is sure to be incredible. Today kicks off the Alzheimer's Association International Conference® 2025 (AAIC®) in Toronto, Canada, the largest and most influential international conference on dementia science and clinical practice.
Powerful things happen when we all come together. AAIC is a testament to that. Right now, thousands of the world's leading scientists, clinicians, clinical researchers, early-career investigators and the care research community will gather at AAIC to share breaking research discoveries and clinical practice education. Findings presented will lead to improvements in diagnosis, risk reduction and treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other dementia.
Since you've shown an interest in our work, we're thrilled to bring you the real time updates from the conference, including:
Results from the U.S. POINTER Study — a two-year clinical trial to evaluate whether a multi-component program of lifestyle changes, such as nutrition and physical activity, can preserve cognitive function in older adults at increased risk for cognitive decline.
Data from five cohort studies of aging that suggest taking a combination of drugs to treat blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes may slow cognitive decline.
One study that suggests high exposure to lead — especially from leaded gas pollution in the 1960s and 1970s — is linked to memory problems 50 years later.
New data on real-world use of newly approved Alzheimer's drugs, as well as novel topics on women and dementia.
We hope you are inspired by the progress being made and that you will join us in the fight. Our work is far from done, and we need you to help keep our momentum going.
AAIC begins today and continues through July 31. I'm looking forward to discussing the latest research with my colleagues and learning how we can support the progress they're making. Stay tuned for more updates.
Thank you so much,
Maria C. Carrillo, Ph.D.
Chief Science Officer and Medical Affairs Lead
