**BREAKING NEWS***
A couple of quick “ice breakers” —
For those who haven’t noticed, the Washington Post has been shedding staff like nobodies business. Apparently if the Post folds, there won’t even be anyone around to write the obituary [ [link removed] ].
It looks like some liberals will be out of work [ [link removed] ] with PBS and NPR affiliates in California having to lay people off after the signing of the OBBB in Washington cut federal funding. I wrote about [ [link removed] ] why these cuts were a good idea last week (and it’s not one of the featured stories below.)

Okay, the week that was on the “So, Does It Matter?” Substack!
California Patriot Profile of Victor Davis Hansen. Each week we profile a liberty-loving Californian who is willing to stand up against the progressive-left that is so vocal here in our state. Hansen is a prolific truth-teller, whose great essays, columns, books and videos present so much common sense for any who get a chance to soak them all in…
Public Employee Unions Are A Cancer Infecting California. This is an in depth piece that analyses how powerful public employee unions are methodically growing the size and scope of state and local government in California. They use their money and political clout to elect the very people who vote on their own member contracts. It’s scandalous.
California’s Failures Are An Inconvenient Truth For Candidate Newsom. Gavin Newsom is consumed with his ambition to be the next President of the United States. But one big problem he has is that it is not at all clear that voters around the country are looking at California as a model for the nation… And the latest unemployment report for this state is just one more headache for Newsom.
Each week we feature an “Issue Tool Kit” where we give talking points to help you talk about a contemporary issue in California politics or policy. This week we present reasons for why giving massive tax-credit subsidies to Hollywood is a terrible idea. Well, it may not be a bad idea if you are the Democratic Governor of California, with a fixation on being the next U.S. President…
Gavin Newsom’s FOMO. There are potential efforts by Red States to engage in legislative mid-century Congressional District gerrymandering, to pick up more seats. Not wanting to miss out on the fun, Newsom has threaded to do this, in the opposite, in blue California. But this state has a state Redistricting Commission, locked in by our state constitution. My analysis… (and also I have a video analysis below on the ONE VIDEO of the week.)
Last week we had 11 different original items published on So, Does It Matter? If you do some math, we featured five of them above… That leaves 6 more… Miss any of those? Click to the main page below and scroll down to see anything you may have missed! Two of those other six items highlight important 2A court victories!
ONE VIDEO! Governor Gavin Newsom is the gift that keeps on giving. He seems to be hell-bent on — having California engage in a partisan gerrymander of its U.S. House Districts, to try and reduce the number of GOP-held districts from only nine of 52 to… something less. Here’s my ten cents…

Gross Domestic Problem is a podcast hosted by William Glass exploring critical economic issues. In this episode, William Glass and Robert Bluey, President of The Daily Signal, discuss the challenge of reporting on the $37 trillion national debt. Robert is a longtime friend of mine, and a great person. Robert and William explore how consumer behavior, click-driven journalism, and complex economic issues hinder meaningful coverage. The conversation highlights media incentives that discourage in-depth fiscal policy reporting and the need for innovative storytelling to engage the public on this critical issue. This video podcast is 50 minutes long, thus a Sunday watching recommendation! Prefer to listen to it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever? I have your back here [ [link removed] ].
Finally, 22 years ago today legendary comedian Bob Hope passed away…
From 1974 to 1984 actor and comedian Dean Martin would host televised roasts. He would pick an “honoree” (sucker) and array a lot of celebrities to make fun of them. And the honoree would go last, and dish it out back them all! Here’s the “payback” part of a roast where Bob Hope was in the hot seat! (Bonus points if you spot Ronald Reagan mid-way through!) This clip is only about 5 minutes long.
Have a great Sunday!
Jon
