The blockade that’s prevented food and medicine from entering Gaza is taking a horrific toll. Over 100 people have starved to death, most of them in recent weeks, including at least 21 children. The World Health Organization stressed that those figures are likely the tip of the iceberg.
It’s difficult to fully express in words the nightmare that people in Gaza are facing right now. People are dying preventable deaths as truckloads of food, medicine and medical supplies from humanitarian organizations sit across the border awaiting entry.
Americares continues to support our trusted partners so they can meet the urgent mental health needs of the people who so desperately need help. And we are ready to mobilize shipments of medical aid when border access improves.
Since the hostilities escalated in October 2023, we have provided 35 tons of essential medicine and medical supplies, including enough medicine to fill more than 350,000 prescriptions, supported medical care for over 43,000 patients in Gaza and supported mental health programs reaching thousands of people in Gaza.
