john,
House Republicans just passed a rescissions package that includes devastating cuts to public broadcasting. But here’s what that really means for our local community:
- Stations like KUOW and Northwest Public Broadcasting could lose millions
- Local stations in places like Port Townsend and Spokane might have to cut staff or even shut down news coverage
- People could lose access to emergency alerts, weather info, and trusted reporting
- Classrooms might lose educational programming teachers use every day
Republicans are portraying this as a tidy little cut to help “keep dollars in your pockets.”
But what they’re really doing is gutting something that so many of us rely on. These stations aren’t just “nice to have.” They’re part of the backbone of our communities, and they help people stay informed, connected, and prepared.
If that’s “wasted dollars,” then Republicans really do have it all backwards. No one asked for this. But once again, Republicans are showing us just how out of touch they are with the American people. This is yet another reminder that this GOP-controlled House isn’t working for the people. That's why we need to do everything we can to flip it and take back our Democratic majority in 2026.
Can you pitch in to help us fight back and elect Democrats who actually listen? >>
