My 180 Seconds of Wisdom on Political Polling
The last of my videos filmed at Disneyland last week. This is a short video, but it delivers an important message.
What Have I Been Reading?
Kevin Lincoln Jumps Back Into The Arena
Former Stockton Mayor Kevin Lincoln narrowly lost his run for Congress against U.S. Rep. Josh Harder in 2024. This week Lincoln decided to jump back in. Politico ran a short piece on it [ [link removed] ]. By the way, if you do not recall, Lincoln is a former Marine who actually was part of the detail protecting Marine One. Pretty cool.
Lincoln posted up on X that things are off to a good start….
Deep Dive On The History of CEQA
What is CEQA? It is an acronym of course for the California Environmental Quality Act. This law has been around since Ronald Reagan was Governor of California. Currently it looms large as a tool used by radical environmentalists and others to stymie development in California. But was that always what it was? Ace Reporter Jeremy White at Politico takes an interesting deep dive [ [link removed] ] on this landmark California law.
Projected Changes In House Delegation Sizes By State After 2030 Census
The American Redistricting Project [ [link removed] ] has a bunch of interesting data on its website. Here is the link [ [link removed] ] to the page where I grabbed this image as there is more there. The ARP is on the GOP side of things by the way. (Gotta love a good chart!)
The Public Policy Institute Released Some Results from a July 1-6 Statewide Survey
There’s a lot to peruse [ [link removed] ], much of it reminding us that California is still a blue state on environmental issues. But the responses to this question I found quite interesting.
Gavin Newsom: Liar, Liar Pants On Fire?
Katy Grimes at the California Globe has a pretty in depth piece with some pretty good anecdotal evidence of Gavin Newsom having trouble with… the truth. She asks, “…is Gavin Newsom a pathological liar or a compulsive habitual liar?” Worth a read [ [link removed] ]!
The (Secret) State Capitol Money Pit
Ace reporter Ashley Zavala with CRA3 television (who last month won an Emmy Award for her work [ [link removed] ] - Congrats!) in Sacramento has been covering the story of the massive construction job going on at the State Capitol. Calling it a “renovation” with be to downplay a price tag that is said to be well over a BILLION dollars. But we don’t have a lot of the details because the legislature will not share information with Ashley or the public. A reminder that the legislature has exempted itself from requirements to let the public know how their money is being spent. Her latest is here [ [link removed] ].
Some Non-Political Stories Of Interest (To Me!)
The price of Hershey chocolate is going up [ [link removed] ] (which means every other chocolate maker will follow suite. This is dreadful. This is on top of beef prices being at an all time high [ [link removed] ]! Grrrr.
A Delta Airlines team member befriended a frequent traveler who flew from her airport often. Turns out he needed a kidney transplant. She gave him one of hers [ [link removed] ]!
I guess 3-D printing is here to stay, given that they are now 3-D printing parts of nuclear reactors [ [link removed] ]!
China is building the world’s largest hydro-power generating dam [ [link removed] ] in the world (in Tibet).
Who wins when a Skywest passenger jet is on a collision course with a U.S. Air Force B-52 Bomber? Good question [ [link removed] ]!
How popular are streaming services? For the first time the audience for broadcast television has dropped below 20% [ [link removed] ].
Finally, Tallahassee Florida police took down Chuck E. Cheese [ [link removed] ] for credit card fraud.
What have I been watching?
OK, back to politics…
Fascinating Interview with the Legendary Willie Brown, Jr.
If you have not yet discovered Jon Slavet’s State of Gold Podcasting Channel [ [link removed] ] on YouTube, you’re missing out. Jon has a bunch of interesting interviews in the can. But the one below is, in my opinion, the most interesting of all, thus far. Slaver nabbed a sit-down interview with legendary California politico Willie Brown, Jr. Brown is the former Ayatollah of the Assembly (his nickname for having been there so long) and served two terms as Mayor of San Francisco. This interview is over 40 minutes long — all of it fascinating. If every state could nominate someone for “Most Interesting Person In America” - California probably would have to have Brown on the short list.
Informative CRPA Podcast On Thursday’s Ninth Circuit Ruling Finding California’s Ammunition Background Check Law Unconstitutional
On Thursday I sent out a “Breaking News” afternoon update on a big court win for the Second Amendment. It’s a great ruling, and I go into some detail. But if you really want to to drink from the faucet, in this California Rifle and Pistol Association Podcast, CRPA Legal Counsel Sean Brady and Olympic shooter Kim Rhode (the named plaintiff in the case) break down what this ruling means, how we got here, and what comes next. I recommend subscribing to CRPA TV on YouTube [ [link removed] ]. I’m a proud CRPA member. Check out their website [ [link removed] ], and join!
Finally, if you’ve got an extra $90 bucks around (plus tax) and have been trying to figure out what to buy the kid who has everything….
Krispy Kreme, and Clogs [ [link removed] ].
I hope everyone has a fun weekend!
Jon
