[1]Alex Padilla for Senate
Friends,
I hear it every single day: Americans are appalled by the Trump administration’s culture of cruelty and mass deportations... and they know there’s a better way.
Everyone agrees: our immigration system is broken. But it doesn’t have to be like this.
So yesterday, I introduced a bill that does what the majority of Americans actually want — creating a pathway to legalization for millions of people who’ve lived and worked here for years.
And all it does is make a small update to the Immigration and Nationality Act.
I believe — as do most Americans — that if you’ve built a life here, contributed and made our communities stronger, you should have a shot at the American Dream.
This is not a radical idea. Even Ronald Reagan understood this when 40 years ago he signed a similar update of the Immigration and Nationality Act into law and created a path to legalization for millions of people.
He said it was “a matter of basic fairness.” That’s as true today as it was back then.
But Trump doesn’t care about whether or not someone has spent years here, working hard, paying taxes, building a life and being a valued member of the community.
Trump wants mass raids, fear, and chaos while denying longtime residents the chance to stay in the country they call home.
My bill does the opposite.
Let’s choose dignity, not deportation.
Please, add your name to say you support my update to the Immigration and Nationality Act that would keep families together and create a fair pathway forward.
