For Shannon Parris, running her own business meant taking control of her life and manage her multiple disabilities ([link removed]) , some of which she was only diagnosed with in her 30s.
Now a Pittsburgh-based coach and disability advocate, Parris left her traditional job that often made her feel burnt out, and took advantage of COVID-era remote training programs to launch her consulting business ([link removed]) .
“It feels like an understatement to say that self-employment and entrepreneurship changed my life and set me free,” Parris writes in a first-person essay ([link removed]) . “When I look around at the life I’m creating, it’s a life that I would want for my children. I didn’t feel that way when I was an employee.”
