For decades, groups like the NRA and its allies have peddled the same old racially charged narratives about cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Philadelphia. But when those same cities make life-saving progress against gun violence? Not a word.
Today, we’re highlighting the major drop in gun violence in Maryland and Baltimore and how we can replicate this success nationwide. Ghost guns once flooded the streets of Baltimore. In 2021, the Baltimore Police Department recovered 324 of these homemade, untraceable firearms that were designed for prohibited gun purchasers. Before 2018, law enforcement had not recovered even one of these weapons.
With the number of ghost guns used in crime growing, in 2022, Brady’s legal team took action representing the city of Baltimore. We filed a landmark lawsuit against Polymer80 — the largest maker of ghost guns — for fueling gun violence in the city. On the same day, a state-wide bill that our policy team helped pass went into effect banning ghost guns.
We spent years fighting in court, citing hard-hitting facts: From January 2020 to April 2022, 91% of all ghost guns recovered by police in Baltimore came from Polymer80. And after a lengthy battle, we won. Brady settled the case on behalf of the city for $1.2 million dollars and Polymer80 was permanently prohibited from advertising or selling ghost guns to Maryland residents. After continued legal pressure from Brady and others, Polymer80 shut its doors.
The results speak volumes. Maryland's homicide rate dropped by over 10 percent in 2023 and 2024, and the state was no longer one of the top 10 deadliest states in the U.S. In 2025, homicides dropped again — by nearly 24 percent.

Brady Campaign Endorses Gun Violence Prevention Champions in Virginia
Gun violence prevention is on the ballot in Virginia — and we’re fighting to help elect candidates who will prioritize solutions to protect our communities and save lives. |
This week, the Brady Campaign endorsed former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger for Governor, Virginia State Senator Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor, former Virginia Delegate Jay Jones for Attorney General, and dozens of other candidates in the House of Delegates.
We’re putting our full weight behind these gun violence prevention champions to replace lawmakers who have stalled our progress for years.
In 2024 and 2025, the Youngkin-Sears administration vetoed nearly 40 common-sense gun violence prevention bills. These bills would have promoted secure gun storage, expanded Brady Background Checks, and banned uniquely deadly weapons like ghost guns. And even as guns became the leading cause of death for youth in the state, the administration refused to act. Enough is ENOUGH. Celebrating Robert Schentrup’s Birthday and Leadership!
Today, we’re celebrating the birthday of Robert Schentrup, a co-founder of Team ENOUGH, Brady’s youth-led initiative. Robert’s journey began in the wake of an unimaginable tragedy: His sister, Carmen Schentrup, was one of the 17 lives lost during the Parkland school shooting. Ever since, Robert has been a driving force in the movement to end gun violence, dedicating himself to advocacy, education, and organizing.
