Countdown Conversations

Tēnā koe Friend --

Countdown Conversations – 12 Weeks

Tēnei te maioha atu ki a tātau katoa i te tau hou kua tākiri nei me te rawe o tō tātau whakamāunutanga i Hoani Waititi i te rāhoroi kua hipa atu nei.  He kitenga kanohi, he hokinga mahara ki ngā mate o te wā me ngā pou o te Pāti kua ngaro i waenga i a tātau i roto i ngā tau.  Tahia te pō, nau mai te ao

Ko te Tahi o Pipiri te tū nei me te mārama tonu kua ara mai a Matariki.  Hei akuanei tākiri mai ai te marama i ngā mata o Tangaroa kia pānui atu i ngā hua o te tau.

What an amazing launch on Saturday that celebrated our pride and belief in being Māori and a massive mihi to Team Tāmaki Makaurau for all the hard mahi to get things organised – tēnā rawa atu koutou.

We did launched on the eve of Te Tahi o Pipiri the new year and we now have 86 days till the election and time keeps ticking, so its time to get cracking and help us win seats and get back to Parliament.

Each tribe celebrates the new year at different times, however the Whiro phase that signifies the beginning of Pipiri was on Sunday so Happy New Year!

Te Whakamāunu Waka – Our Launch Celebration

Over 500 people gathered at Hoani Waititi Marae for our launch (NB: move to around 42 minutes in the link as the livestream was delayed due to the pōwhiri taking a little bit longer than scheduled).

The hui had an electric wairua and as you drive to park your car there was the first line of billboards which helped build excitement.  When we went through the waharoa we got to see another line up of billboards and tents and the whānau of Hoani Waititi and Team Tāmaki Makaurau.  Once we went inside, we also had time to hear the speeches of the team and to hear the first policy launched.

The hui finished off with an amazing hākari and the national champions Ngā Tūmanako entertained while we enjoyed our kai.

Whānau First Policy

Our policy whakapapa is based on the 1927 statement by Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana who said: māuiui whenua, māuiui tangata.  Our response to that is to develop a framework based on oranga whenua, oranga tangata.  This will be help us work through oranga tangata with our flagship statement being – Whānau First.  Under oranga whenua, our statement is Protect Our Mother and more will be shared on Oranga Whenua in due course.

Our first policy, Whānau First was launched at Hoani Waititi on Saturday and in short, it’s really simple.  We want 25% of the COVID-19 recovery package to come to Māori.  This isn’t rescinding our Tiriti rights instead this is an equity position.  This will help to stop the universal approach of this government and instead focus on lifting us up so we can start at an even playing level.

Me māti ki te pōti – 86 days to go

Selwyn Parata said at the launch on Saturday that we must march to the polling booths.  So please identify your 20 whānau and friends to get up and vote.

We have under three months now and we still need help with erecting billboards so please contact your local Māori Seat Candidate if you have a property with good coverage.

Annual membership renewal

From 1 July 2020, the grace period to update your membership to the $5.00 annual membership, ends.  So make sure your membership is renewed and feel free to add extra pūtea to help us fight our biggest campaign since we started.

And if you or any whānau and friends want to help out and donate to the party we’d love your tautoko with $25 or $50 or $100 or more, click here to help us return back to Parliament.

Arohanui, nā

Che Wilson
