# [#]It’s no secret that our country is experiencing an affordable housing crisis that impacts nearly every aspect of our lives and the economy. The most direct way out of this national housing shortage is also quite clear: We must build more housing.
Especially here in California, the cost of housing is a barrier to prosperity for so many hardworking people, and it’s only becoming increasingly prohibitive. And with people being forced to move farther and farther away from where they work, commute times and air pollution go up.
This week, I reintroduced a bipartisan bill to remedy this problem by facilitating the construction of more housing near transit centers. On top of increased access to affordable homes, this proposed investment in public transportation also serves to cut carbon emissions by growing ridership and getting cars off the road.
This is the type of common-sense solution that will make a huge difference for our communities. If you agree, add your name here to support substantive action to address housing affordability → [[link removed]]SIGN ON [[link removed]]
Research shows that the U.S. has a shortage of over 7 million affordable rental homes, and that over 11 million Americans spend upwards of 50% of their income on housing.
If we’re going to tackle poverty, boost our economies, and help families everywhere to thrive, we must address housing affordability.
I’m committed to finding solutions in Congress.
