Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Dear John,

It was another week of Republican chaos in Congress. Here are three things I worked on as your Representative:

1. Condemned Violence Against Civilians in Gaza and the West Bank

I was horrified by the murder of 20‑year‑old Palestinian‑American Sayfollah ‘Saif’ Musallet in the West Bank. There must be an independent investigation into Saif’s murder, and those responsible must be held accountable. I was equally horrified by the 94 Palestinians who were killed while seeking food aid and at least 33 people, including 12 children, who died of starvation last weekend.

I am a proud cosponsor of the West Bank Violence Prevention Act to bring an end to violence in the West Bank and ensure that any perpetrators are brought to justice. I also reiterated my call for an immediate ceasefire and for Israel to reinstate UN control over humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza.

2. Called Out Trump's Bizarre Attacks on Obama

Donald Trump disrespects the office of the presidency every single day, but this week, he took things to a new low. Trump's use of an AI-generated video of President Obama was deeply unsettling. First, for the ongoing insinuation that he would arrest his political rivals. Second, for his continued rejection of the widely accepted conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. In 2017, the entire Intelligence Community, and Senate Republicans led by Marco Rubio, reached this conclusion. As someone who took part in the investigation, allow me to remind Trump and Republicans that despite their best efforts, the truth remains.

3. Attended the Grand Reopening of Renovated Red Line Stations

Last weekend, the CTA celebrated the reopening of four newly renovated Red Line stations, and I was excited to join in the celebrations. The Red and Purple Modernization Project is the perfect example of what we can accomplish when federal, state, and local governments work together. Meanwhile, in Washington last week, Republicans cut $9 billion in funding they voted for just six months ago. Imagine if these stations never opened because every time Republicans voted for something, they changed their minds 6 months later.
