Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
Are you ready to bring our team home? I know we’re ready because for the past three months I’ve been hearing from people in all eight wards that the time is now to bring our team home. The time is now to catalyze the development of 180 acres on the banks of the Anacostia River. And you've been telling me that $2.7 billion of private investment at RFK is just what our city needs — and just what our city needs right now.
Yesterday, we came together at City Hall to congratulate the Council on announcing the date of the vote on the most important economic development project in the history of Washington, DC. There is a public hearing next week and I encourage you to sign up to testify [ [link removed] ] or to submit written testimony and tell the DC Council what it will mean to you to bring the team home and create jobs, housing, recreation space, and so much more at the RFK campus.
I've been involved in a lot of economic development deals, including the Capital One Arena, Audi Field, CareFirst Arena, and now RFK. And the thing I know about all of them is when the community engages and gets involved, all agreements get better and we do more of what the community wants. With Chairman Mendelson's announcement that there will be a vote on August 1, we are one step closer — not just to a world-class stadium by 2030, but to thousands of new jobs starting this year.
When I gave the Council the deal, we were on the 1-yard line. Today, we are even closer. But the job isn’t finished. Let’s give the Council the support they need to get the job done. The time is now.
Sincerely,
Muriel BowserMayor Bowser at the RFK Rally
