Conservative Justice Roberts Votes with the Left on Religious Liberty
“…Justice John Roberts… joined the court’s four left-leaning justices (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan) in declining to uphold religious liberty…Religious gatherings, he rationalized, are being restricted like gatherings that are physically similar, such as lectures, concerts, theater productions and spectator sports. He conceded that less intense restrictions have been imposed on other activities, such as shopping, banking, and laundering.
What about the Constitutional pedigree of religious exercise? That was the point pressed by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, in a brief dissent joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch”. Times are changing, and if we don’t stand up for our civil liberties, what chance do our children and grandchildren have when we are gone? It will be that we set a poor example, and they will succumb to the violence and hardships that are beginning to surface now.
President Trump Signs Executive Order: Safe Policing for Safe Communities
President Trump signed an “executive order that will reform policing communities across the country. “We will prioritize federal grants from the Department of Justice to police departments that seek independent credentialing, certifying that they meet high standards and…on the use of force and de-escalation training. …Part of this new credentialing process, chokeholds will be banned, except if an officer’s life is at risk… New advanced and powerful less-lethal weapons to help prevent deadly interactions…
Departments will also need to share of information about credible abuses so that officers with significant issues do not simply move from one police department to the next. [It also] direct[s] federal funding to support officers in dealing with homeless individuals and those who have mental illness and substance-abuse problems. We will provide more resources for co-responders, such as social workers who can help officers manage these complex encounter” Please try finding any of this on the Internet, no one is talking about these reforms., and certainly not in the media.
Members of Congress Benefited from PPP Loan Program
“Several lawmakers have reportedly benefited from the Paycheck Protection Program —the nearly $500 billion package that provided relief for small businesses amid the coronavirus pandemic. The bill delivers a $310 billion infusion to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which helps businesses with fewer than 500 employees obtain loans that can cover eight weeks of their payroll, benefits, and other expenses. Thirty billion of that is reserved for community-based lenders, small banks, and credit unions, and $30 billion is for mid-sized banks and credit unions. Politico reported that a group of four lawmakers—both Democrats and Republicans—have acknowledged being associated with companies that have received PPP loans.
The businesses …are either run by the lawmakers’ families or have their spouses in senior positions. The lawmakers include Republican Rep. Roger Williams of Texas, who owns auto dealerships and car repair shops, and Rep. Vicky Hartzler of Missouri, whose family reportedly owns farms and equipment suppliers in the Midwest. Democratic Rep. Susie Lee of Nevada was listed in the Politico report, noting her husband is the chief executive officer of a casino developer, and Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel Powell from Florida, whose husband is a senior executive at a restaurant chain. Politico reported that the restaurant chain has returned the PPP loan.”
State
Abbott Awards $295M COVID-19 Contract to MTX
A small company from Frisco, TX “…has won a $295.3 million state contract to track down Texans potentially infected with the coronavirus… MTX Group Inc. won the 27-month contract in a whirlwind bidding process, beating out 10 mostly big-name corporations, such as IBM, AT&T Global Business Services and Accenture LLP… [It]aims to detect who has been exposed to people infected with the virus; monitor such people for symptoms; and instruct them how to get tested and where…
What is concerning is that the state of Texas will deploy 5000 people across the state to randomly knock on doors to test people. Inadvertently, they will also be collecting citizen’s DNA. This is alarming. No one has a right to anyone’s DNA unless is provided by a willing participant. It is an invasion of privacy, which is guaranteed through our Fourth Amendment.
Lt. Gov Patrick Skewers General Land Office Comm. Bush Over Alamo Redesign
LT Gov Dan Patrick and GLO Commissioner George P. Bush are at odds with each other after Bush went on national television to warn people to stay away from the Alamo. While on television Bush mentioned he was receptive to serving at a higher office such as lieutenant governor or governor. Patrick promptly fired back via Twitter how Bush had mismanaged handling the redesign of the Alamo.
Patrick said, “ Nobody has put the @OfficialAlamo more risk than @georgepbush with the outrageous ‘reimagining’ plan, lousy management, lack of transparency, and moving the Cenotaph.” It’s been long overdue for someone to say something about Bush’s mishandling of it. According to This is Texas Freedom Force, there are 10,000 signatures from Texans across the state that have signed a “Do Not Move the Cenotaph petition. It’s time for Commissioner Bush to listen to his constituents: Do not move the Cenotaph.
Fort Hood Could Possibly Face Name Change
U.S. Military Installations that were named after famous Confederate Army Generals Officers are being considered for renaming; chief among them is Fort Hood. Located in Killeen, TX. it is the world’s largest military installation and was named after John Bell Hood. There are nine other Army posts named after Confederate generals across the South that are part of this discussion.
Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said they were “open to discussion” on the renaming plan. President Trump quickly slapped down Esper and McCarthy in a Tweet that the bases are “part of a Great American Heritage , and a history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom.” This is America. We cannot lose our identity and our history regardless of what has happened in the past. History must be preserved.

Abbott Backs Wolff’s Face Mask Mandate
“…Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff…[issued an executive order that] mandated businesses require customers and employees to wear masks. So, Wolff tried a different tack putting the onus on businesses to require customers and employees to wear face coverings. “That’s what was authorized in my plan,” Abbott said. “That’s what the Bexar County judge has now realized, and so what Bexar County is doing and what every county is authorized to do, and that is to impose requirements on business operations.”
Abbott is now being heavily criticized by “local officials and lawmakers” for aligning himself with Wolff… Sen. Bob Hall ([link removed][UNIQID]) , R-Edgewood, criticized the way the orders are now placing the enforcement responsibility on business owners, saying it is "bizarre, convoluted, and confusing." Republicans have always stood for smaller government. Now other Democratic run counties are implementing the same rule. This is a clear example of government overreach by using businesses to enforce a mandate that violates our Tenth Amendment Right.
Council Talks Police Reform and Shifting Monies
Amid protestors destroying our city, Council considers moving funds from the general fund for police to other departments. Council members shared their thoughts for changing the San Antonio Police Department during a virtual briefing Wednesday by Chief William McManus... Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales suggested, “If we’re serious about homelessness, can we redirect funds that the police department does for homelessness to social services agencies that are better equipped to do that work?”
Councilman Robert Trevino stated, “If federal grants can fund basics like equipment and training for SAPD, can San Antonio reallocate our local budget dollars to other departments that complement public safety - like housing and mental health?” There is one major flaw in this notion to defund SAPD, and that is among Bexar County residents, the number one issue most important to them is public safety. Second is property taxes, and third is traffic congestion. Defunding SAPD will seriously degrade the City’s the ability to provide a safe environment in which to live. The RPBC Backs the Blue.
Rioting Caused by Out-of-Towners
“In San Antonio, rioters’ broke windows and otherwise damaged at least 39 businesses. Looters ransacked a jewelry store. Agitators hurled bottles and bricks at officers, injuring at least three, in faceoffs that disintegrated into shrieking, shoving, and punching. “…Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino stated... I think the bulk of the actual individuals out there doing damage are opportunistic looters or hard left.”
“Police Chief William McManus said federal authorities believe that “violent extremists” from out of town are behind most of the violence, looting and rioting. Police now will forward information about protest-related arrests of anyone from out of state to the FBI and the U.S. attorney’s office for possible prosecution, McManus said.”
RPBC Spotlight, Juneteenth A Historical Background:
Why every Texas Republican should know about Juneteenth
By Lynette Perez, District 7 Trustee and Board Secretary
Judson Independent School District
I have always had a love of old houses. One of my favorites in Texas is Ashton Villa in Galveston. I love it not only because of its period architectural detail, but because of its place in American and Republican history. It was on the balcony of Ashton Villa that Union Army General Gordon Granger read aloud the contents of "General Order No. 3," an Executive Order by Republican President Abraham Lincoln, announcing the total emancipation of those held as slaves: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”
The date was June 19, 1865 or “Juneteenth.”
This event was significant because many blacks, especially in Texas, remained enslaved after Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation only applied to states under the control of the Confederacy “under rebellion” and not in Union hands. This excluded the five states known later as border states, which were the four "slave states" not in rebellion – Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, and Missouri – and those counties of Virginia soon to form the state of West Virginia, and also the three zones under Union occupation: the state of Tennessee, lower Louisiana, and Southeast Virginia.
More isolated geographically, Texas was not a battleground, and thus the people held there as slaves were not affected by the Emancipation Proclamation unless they escaped. Planters and other slaveholders had migrated into Texas from eastern states to escape the fighting, and many brought enslaved people with them, increasing by the thousands the enslaved population in the state at the end of the Civil War. Although most enslaved people in Texas lived in rural areas, more than 1,000 resided in both Galveston and Houston by 1860, with several hundred in other large towns. By the original Juneteenth, there were an estimated 250,000 enslaved people in Texas.
All Republicans, especially those of us from the Lone Star State, should be proud that it took a Republican President to end slavery in America. But there is so much more every Texas Republican should know. The Republican Party of Texas was founded on July 4, 1867 by 150 blacks and 20 whites. Two of the first three statewide leaders of the RPT were black. The first 42 blacks elected to the Texas Legislature were all Republicans. Their pictures are displayed prominently inside the capital building in Austin.
It was the Democrats of the Reconstruction era who created what is known in textbooks as “Black Codes” aimed to suppress black voter participation. Concepts such as the creation of poll taxes, Jim Crow laws, gerrymandering of legislative districts and “white only” primaries during elections, were all the creations of Democrats in Texas and in many southern states. The consequence of their Democratic platform resulted in no blacks being elected to the Texas legislature from 1897 to 1966. It took the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, both federal laws
supported overwhelmingly by Republicans, for this tactical political oppression by the Democratic Party to end.
Let us not forget it was Republican President Dwight Eisenhauer who sent the National Guard to Little Rock, Arkansas to integrate Central High School in 1954 over the objection of the Democratic Governor who was blocking nine black teenagers from attending that high school. It took Republican President Ronald Reagan to make a day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a national holiday in 1983. It should be noted Central High School and Ashton Villa are both on the National Register of Historic Places. It took Donald Trump to sign the First Step Act to correct Clinton-era federal sentencing laws that had a disproportionate impact on blacks, especially black men, charged with drug offenses.
As a black conservative, I have always known this history. But at the intersection we now find ourselves today, I believe in my heart all conservatives need to know this history. It took the actions of Republican leaders to make these events I write about significant and historic. As we prepare for our State Convention in Houston next month, let us all take time to celebrate, to reflect and to remember these important lessons of American history and of our Republican Party.
Chairman’s Commentary
Considering everything politically that has transpired over the last several months, it all looks chaotic, out of control, and beyond belief. I mentioned two months ago that all this madness has to do with President Trump’s reelection campaign. I still stand by what I said. I ask you to step back and look at it in the big picture—this is politics at its worst. Never in my lifetime have I seen another president endure so much hate—for what? It’s all about power and control over the people. He is not a politician. He is a businessman. He is genuinely trying to correct all the mistakes made by his predecessors to the best of his ability, literally to make America great again.
What is unfortunate is some members of our own Party do not support him. You will know who they are when they remain silent when asked questions regarding immigration, the wall, or they will outright attempt to pass laws that will undermine his efforts. The biggest giveaway is always their voting record. Are they voting for our conservative causes, or voting with the Democrats? If you see they are aligned with the Democrats on important issues, know they are RINO’s-- that’s a dead giveaway. I don’t care what their reasoning is for voting the way they did. You just have to pay attention. They will out themselves. The Bible says you will know them by their fruit.
I ask you in closing to pray for our president. It is important for him to have peace and clarity of mind as he works in the swamp. Personally, I have lots of people that are praying for me. I can feel their prayers and feel God’s Peace. It makes a world of difference. Washington D.C. is so full of hate. If someone finds out you support the president, they will attack you or run you out of their business. It’s not like it is here in Texas, so please pray for him as often as you can. He needs to be covered in prayer.
