Last week, we launched our statewide recruitment campaign in Iowa, our 16th state of the year — and one of the most important.

Why? Because we’ve seen what happens when Democrats don’t contest local elections in The Hawkeye State.

Senator Joni Ernst is what happens.

In 2012, she ran unopposed for her first full term in local office. Just two years later, she was elected to the U.S. Senate. Now, she’s one of the most extreme MAGA voices in Washington, backing Trump’s "Big Beautiful Bill" that guts health insurance for up to 17 million Americans .

When an Iowan raised concerns about those cuts at a town hall earlier this year, Ernst replied: “We’re all going to die.”

That’s what happens when Democrats leave local seats uncontested: MAGA builds a national pipeline of politicians who don't care if we live or die . We’re done letting that happen.

But here’s the truth: it’s not easy to run for office — especially in places Democrats have written off, like rural Iowa.
