PJI - Victory for Free Speech and Religious Liberty in Minnesota

Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) announces a successful resolution in Miller v. City of Northfield, a case defending the First Amendment rights of a Christian street preacher whose speech was suppressed at a public event in Northfield, Minnesota.

The lawsuit was filed after David Miller was prevented from preaching with a megaphone in public spaces during an open event organized by a private entity. The City of Northfield has since acknowledged and reaffirmed public access rights, allowing similar expressive activity by other Christians at subsequent events.

“This lawsuit has engendered diffuse consequences in Northfield,” said Sung Woo Hong, the PJI attorney representing Mr. Miller. “Mr. Miller informed me that Northfield police have since sanctioned megaphone preaching at other public-private events, restoring rightful access for religious speech.”

The case marks a significant early victory for PJI’s Minnesota office and highlights the organization’s continued efforts to protect constitutional freedoms nationwide. PJI applauds the City of Northfield for resolving the issue and safeguarding religious liberty moving forward.
