On Wedensday, ([link removed] U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Trump to remove the Democratic members of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, allowing the administration to continue to seize control of the federal bureaucracy while litigation continues in the lower courts.

The Supreme Court’s conservative majority has been highly receptive to Trump’s claims of presidential power over independent agencies and repeatedly permitted the president to fire other regulators despite statutes passed by Congress protecting such officials from removal without cause. 
Emil Bove’s nomination ([link removed] to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, passed out of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee last Thursday. His nomination is so controversial that nearly 1,000 former judges and Department of Justice attorneys signed on to separate letters last week urging senators to vote against him.

“You would think that, with that kind of opposition to a candidate for a court so important to our system, that that would be enough to stop the nomination,” said Steve Kaufman, former acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Bove is up for a final confirmation vote in the next couple of days. 
A magistrate judge in Tennessee has paused accused MS-13 gang member Kilmar Abrego Garcia's ([link removed] release from criminal custody for 30 days, shortly after a separate judge ruled he should be returned to Maryland if released while awaiting trial. 
Our founding CEO, Kadida Kenner joined former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Director of ACLU Voting Rights Project Sophia Lin Lakin on Wednesday afternoon to discuss state courts and the fight for a fair democracy.

Rachel Rossi, President of Alliance for Justice Action Campaign, moderated the panel's discussion as they looked ahead to the 2030 census and redistricting.

Chair of the Philadelphia City Commissioners, Omar Sabir hosted a Voter Turnout Roundtable earlier this week.

NPP was a partner at the roundtable discussion that brought together elected officials, community partners, and civic leaders to identify strategies for increasing voter participation, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring equitable access to the ballot for all Philadelphians.

NPP supports this commitment to building stronger civic engagement across neighborhoods and prepare for upcoming elections in 2025 and beyond.

Congress rolls back $9 billion in public media funding and foreign aid ([link removed]

"Public funding has enabled the flourishing of a uniquely American system of unparalleled cultural, informational, and educational programming, and ensured access to vital emergency alerting and reporting in times of crisis — all for about $1.60 per American, every year. Parents and children, senior citizens and students, tribal and rural communities — all will bear the harm of this vote," Maher said.
