VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump lies to reporters, gets instantly fact-checked by Jerome Powell in painfully awkward exchange caught on camera
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell was forced to fact-check Donald Trump to his face, in real time, as the MAGA cult leader tried to artificially inflate the cost of an ongoing Fed Reserve headquarters renovation project by adding in the expenses of an entirely different building completed five years ago. Never mind the fact that the $400 million in question here is mere peanuts when compared to the TRILLIONS of dollars Trump's just-passed budget will add to the nation's deficit. The president is simply looking for any pretext to fire Powell. Why? Because Powell won't lower the central bank's interest rates to help boost Donald's short-term election prospects. The wannabe dictator can't come up with any credible reason to axe Powell, so all he's left with is simply making shit up. Alas, there's a catch. Powell is a numbers guy, and he called bullshit with the cameras rolling. Oops.

"To Jeff — You are the greatest!" New York Times unearths book Trump signed to Epstein, among other documents
Settle down, people. What's the big deal? So Donald called Epstein "the greatest!" And a "terrific guy." Okay, okay, so maybe he was Jeffrey's "closest friend" for more than a decade, too. And, sure, he once fawned over the infamous pedophile in a 2002 interview with New York Magazine, stating, "He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side." And that whole 50th birthday card thing with the sketch of a naked woman and accompanying message: "A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret." It's just guys being guys! Nothing more than a little mischievous "locker room talk" from Mr. "Grab 'em by the P*ssy" Why is everyone so fixated on the Epstein hoax, anyway?! What about her emails?! HER EMAILS, PEOPLE!
Take Action: Demand the GOP stop covering for Trump and release the Epstein files!
Top scientist takes on the GOP's crusade of ignorance
Jasmine Clark for Georgia: Trump, RFK Jr., and the rest of their cronies in Congress have taken a chainsaw to our scientific research, public health, and climate initatives and are waging an all out-war on science and the truth. PhD scientist Dr. Jasmine Clark has had enough, and she's running for Congress in order to restore sanity to the government and make America a global leader in scientific development once again. Will you chip in to help jump-start her campaign and flip the House blue?
Trump administration greenlights Paramount's $8 billion merger with entertainment group Skydance
Well, would you look at that? Weeks after CBS caved in a bogus "60 Minutes" lawsuit that saw the network pay the MAGA cult leader $16 million and days after outspoken Trump critic Stephen Colbert's ouster at "The Late Show" was announced the Trump regime curiously gave its blessing to parent company Paramount's $8 billion mega-merger with Skydance. Surely just a coincidence and in no way a bright, red, flashing warning sign that the authoritarian con man is using the full might of the federal government to silence critics and stifle journalistic independence.
Take Action: Don't cancel Colbert!
"It's not a hoax": Speaker Mike Johnson bluntly breaks with Trump on Epstein files
In a momentary lapse of obstruction, House Speaker Mike Johnson told CBS News' chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett on Thursday that the ongoing controversy surrounding Jeffrey Epstein "is not a hoax" — a stark break from Donald Trump’s latest rhetoric on the issue. Looks like someone didn't get the latest talking points memo from the White House. Stand by for a tail-tucked retraction in three, two, one...

Wrestling legend and outspoken racist MAGA cheerleader Hulk Hogan dies at 71
Celebrate the inside-the-squared-circle achievements of Terry "Hulk Hogan" Bollea if you feel so inclined, but the man who almost single-handedly made entertainment wrestling a mainstream juggernaut and turned millions of American kids into "little Hulkamaniacs" through the 1980s and '90s should also definitely be remembered for the virulent racist he was in his private life. In a 2007 "unauthorized sex tape" infamously unearthed by The National Inquirer exactly one decade ago, Hogan can be heard lamenting the fact that his daughter Brooke was dating the son of a "Black billionaire guy" at the time, sharing his unvarnished thoughts on the African American community in general, which we'll leave here for posterity: "She is making some real bad decisions now. My daughter Brooke jumped sides on me. I spent $2-3 million on her music career, I've done everything like a jackass for her... I don't know if Brooke was f*cking the Black guy's son... I mean, I don't have double standards. I mean, I am a racist, to a point, f*cking n*ggers. But then when it comes to nice people and sh*t, and whatever... I mean, I'd rather if she was going to f*ck some n*gger, I'd rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n*gger worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player! I guess we're all a little racist. Fucking n*gger." What a guy.
House Republican claims GOP leaders are conspiring to block Trump from making recess appointments
House Republican and perpetual thorn in Trump's side Thomas Massie is stirring the pot again. Massie, whom Trump has promised to primary in next year's midterms for publicly opposing his awful budget, suggested on Thursday that Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune are conspiring to prevent the MAGA cult leader from making recess appointments as Congress enjoys its usual summer break. Massie tweeted: "I see some people are excited @realDonaldTrump can make recess appointments to fill out his staff now that Congress has recessed for August. Bad news: @SpeakerJohnson and Leader Thune plan to convene-and-adjourn every 4 or 5 days to block Trump from making those appointments." Shots fired!

Trump takes aim at college sports with a new executive order
Donald Trump has taken aim at college sports with a new executive order signed Thursday that seeks to empower federal agencies, including the Department of Education, which disburses funds to public universities, to help enforce new provisions on athletic scholarships and "pay-for-play" licensing deals for athletes. The order directs the nation's largest athletic departments to maintain certain numbers of scholarships for women's and Olympic sports. And it seeks to rein in the lucrative name, image, and likeness deals — known as NIL — that have dramatically transformed athlete compensation in recent years. "The future of college sports is under unprecedented threat," the order says. "A national solution is urgently needed to prevent this situation from deteriorating beyond repair and to protect non-revenue sports, including many women's sports, that comprise the backbone of intercollegiate athletics, drive American superiority at the Olympics and other international competitions, and catalyze hundreds of thousands of student-athletes to fuel American success in myriad ways."
DOJ sues Mayor Eric Adams and New York City officials for being a "sanctuary city"
The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against New York City Mayor Eric Adams and top city officials, alleging that the city’s so-called sanctuary policies reflect an "intentional" attempt to obstruct federal immigration law. The 37-page complaint filed in Brooklyn claims New York has "long been at the vanguard of interfering with enforcing this country’s immigration laws" with decades-long policies to "thwart federal immigration enforcement." The Justice Department has filed similar lawsuits in Los Angeles, Chicago, and other jurisdictions it accuses of obstructing Trump’s draconian anti-immigration agenda with local policies designed to prevent unjust arrests, detentions, and removals by limiting cooperation between local and federal law enforcement.
Justice Department officials meet with Ghislaine Maxwell
Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general and Donald Trump's former personal attorney, met with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell yesterday in a nakedly obvious effort to cast the Department of Justice as transparent following fierce backlash from parts of the MAGA cult leader's base after a brazen about-face on releasing additional records in the Epstein investigation. Maxwell's attorney, gunning for a pardon or sentence reduction, told reporters, "Ms. Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped, she never invoked a privilege, she never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly, and to the best of her ability." Well, someone get her a cookie!
