Team, I wanted to personally reach out and make sure you saw this story from VA’s neighboring state:

It was recently reported that a woman in Tennessee was denied prenatal care by her physician because they objected to the fact that she wasn’t married. 🤮

According to The Nashville Banner, during her doctor's appointment, the physician told her that because she was unwed, she should seek care elsewhere. At the time of the appointment, the woman believed she was about four weeks into her pregnancy.

This is LEGAL because of the passing of Tennessee’s 2025 Medical Ethics Defense Act that gives medical professionals the RIGHT to deny care based on religious, moral, or ethical beliefs.

Here’s the kicker: After her care was DENIED based on her marital status, this woman decided to seek care out of state. Where? In Virginia.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: This is why it’s so critical that we ensure that VA remains a safe haven for reproductive rights in the South. As red states continuously work to strip away everything from abortion to contraception access, more and more people are going to be forced to travel to states like VA for basic, sometimes lifesaving care.

This is a perfect example of what happens when anti-choice politicians are in office. We must fight back →
