Racial Harmony Day: A reminder of our past, and lessons for our future

Why do we commemorate Racial Harmony Day on July 21st?

On this day in 1964, Singapore experienced devastating racial riots that changed our nation's course. From this painful chapter emerged a commitment to build a society founded on racial and religious harmony.

Indeed, many of Singapore’s laws, policies, and even our built environment have been developed with this goal in mind.
